  • Austin-Healey Racing Car at Center of 1955 La Mans Tragedy to Be Sold

An Austin-Healey racing car involved in the worst crash in motor sport history is set to sell for nearly £1million.

    ZZ4F344974.jpg

The disaster at the Le Mans 24-hour race in 1955 saw 84 people killed after the car was clipped by a Mercedes, which then flew into the crowd.

But now, the Austin-Healey's anonymous owner has decided to sell it at auction after keeping it locked up for the past 42 years at a garage in the north of England.

Scores of spectators were killed instantly as debris hurtled towards them at 150mph and fires erupted in the grandstand from the wreckage. The French driver of the Mercedes, Pierre Levegh, also died in the crash, in north-west France.

After the tragedy, the Austin-Healey - driven by British racer Lance Macklin - was impounded by the French authorities before it was released to the British company the following year.

It was later sold to several private buyers before the current owner of the car - registration NOJ 393 - bought it for £155 in 1969.
Despite its macabre past and rusty state, motor sport enthusiasts are said to be willing to pay huge sums for it as it is a 'crucially historic landmark car', according to U.K.’s MailOnline news.

Austin-Healey remains a beloved British car. With is sleek and unique styling and performance, collectors continue to lovingly refurbish and restore these cars back to its original finery. At British Parts Northwest, we have a large selection of parts for your Austin Healey, or for your Jaguar, Land Rover, MG, Mini or Triumph for that matter.

Unlike many other British parts supply stores, we stock what we sell. Our motto is to have returning satisfied customers who can count on our fair prices, fast shipping and availability of parts. Currently, we are offering free shipping on all orders over $750.

  • Jaguar Unveiling New F-Type Roadster in the Fall

Jaguar is invoking its iconic E-Type roadster with its first two- seat sports car in almost four decades. The F-Type, due to be unveiled in September and go on sale as soon as next April, will be Jaguar’s smallest automobile in more than a half-century as the maker seeks a return to its sporting tradition following decades spent focusing on luxury sedans, according to British care news reports. The roadster will be built in Birmingham, England.

“If the product can do what the original E-Type did for Jaguar, it will be a huge boost,” said Peter Schmidt, managing director of Warwick, England-based Automotive Industry Data. “What they’re doing is laudable, it’s good for the brand and it’s good for the image. But nobody should expect miracles.”

    ZZ100F6845.jpg

The E-Type, introduced at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show, was described by Ferrari founder Enzo Ferrari as “the most beautiful car ever built,” and became synonymous with the London of the “Swinging Sixties.” Yet it has taken the $2.5 billion purchase of Jaguar by India’s Tata Motors Ltd. in 2008 for a pure-bred sports model to return to favor at the British manufacturer, according to JustBritish.com.

If you are a lucky owner of a Jaguar, whether a classic model or a present-day style, you may find it frustrating to find parts to keep our sleek machine performance and ride ready. You’ll be happy to know that at British Parts Northwest, we have a section dedicated to parts for your Jaguar—or other British cars for that matter. We offer affordable pricing and fast shipping, because we stock what we sell. And as a family owned business, our motto is to keep our customers happy and coming back throughout the lifetime ownership of their car.

So, even if you are enthusiastically awaiting the future debut of the F-Type, you can keep your current prized car road ready. Check out our new and improved website for easy looking of parts. We’d love to hear from you!

  • British Car Production Continues Upward Trend

A recent report by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) showed that UK car production levels are higher than they have been for eight years. For British car owners, the report simply confirms what they already knew: that British cars provide the performance, looks and durability that make them classics.

ZZ42A16462.jpgHere are British car top picks, according to a recent Whatcar? article. Despite BMW ownership, Mini remains a thoroughly British brand and all of its models – bar the Countryman – are assembled in Oxford. None of these sums up the appeal of the Mini brand as well as the Mini Coupe, which is fun to drive.

Jaguar Land produces 10 models in the UK, at factories in Birmingham, Coventry and Liverpool. The Jaguar XF remains a favorite executive choice, thanks to its excellent ride and handling and generous standard equipment. Due a series of updates, the Jaguar XK remains one of the preferred big coupes – there's much more to it than just looks.

Thumbs up are given to the Land Rover Discovery, which is an outstanding family car that mixes executive saloon refinement with MPV practicality and 4x4 ruggedness.

Aston Martin, Bentley and Rolls Royce are no longer British-owned manufacturers, but they produce hugely desirable models that blend cutting-edge technology with old-school British charm.

The Vantage coupe is a pick of the Aston Martin model range, all of which are built in Gaydon, Warwickshire. The Aston Martin Vantage is a credible Porsche 911 rival, with all the style and performance you'd expect.

Bentley is now part of the VW Group empire, but its cars are built using traditional methods in its Crewe factory. For us, the Continental GT sums up what a modern Bentley should be.

For lovers of classic cars, it is all well and good to know what new production lines are yielding, but most argue nothing rivals the cars of the past. Keeping a classic is perfect show, racing or driving form requires maintenance and upkeep, and that is where we come in. We stock what we sell, and we are in business to keep the love of your life—the one with four wheels, that is—on the road and looking lovely! For a limited time, we are offering free shipping on all orders over $750. Contact us and let us see how we can make you a satisfied customer.

  • British Car Manufacturing Enjoying a Boom

As British car manufacturing is enjoying a boom, one British manufacturer is warning about the lack of demand in the UK car market.

Thousands of new jobs have been created by Jaguar Land Rover, Nissan and Toyota amongst others, but sales of cars in the UK are actually falling according to a recent economic report.

Most of the new jobs being created are satisfying demand from overseas car buyers, but MG is warning that something may need to be done to stimulate demand in the British car market.

In 2011 new car sales fell by 4.4 percent. That trend has continued this year, meaning the thousands of new jobs in the British car industry are all to satisfy foreign demand. MG does not yet sell cars in Europe, instead choosing to re-establish itself in Britain first, and now it's concerned that falling UK car sales could affect its ambitious expansion plans.

Americans continue to love British cars, and whether it is a classic design or a new car on the market, we continue to appreciate the sleek lines, performance, and overall beauty.

The only downside often lamented by British car owners is finding parts for them.  Due to today’s continued tough economy, many car parts stores have downsizes their offerings in terms of stock, and only care the most common parts for the most ordinary cars.  That sometimes leaves owners of British cars in a quandary when a part like a water pump, turn switch, fan motor, or similar needs to be replaced.  Often, it meant lots of calls and runs to various stores and then a very long wait for the part to be located and shipped.

British Parts Northwest has changed all that, however, and we’ve made ordering the parts you need simple, secure, and hassle-free.  We stock what we sell, and the parts are shipped direct from us to your door.  Shipping is free on all orders over $750.

Not only do we pride ourselves in our customer service, but we promote that we are, “Big enough to serve, but small enough to care about your British car.”  We are a family operated business with personal pride and experience concerning British cars, including Triumph, MG, Jaguar and Austin Healey.  Our goal is to provide you with fast, courteous, prompt service at reasonable prices.  We feel confident that once you order from us, you’ll be a return customer the next time your car needs some attention.
