  • Insuring Your Classic British Car

Owning a vintage car is a dream that a lot of people have, whether it be for recreation, hobby or just to have one. Along with this dream comes a lot of work and responsibility, including finding the proper insurance for your classic car. Luckily, there are specialty plans that are specific to the needs of a classic car owner.

Collector's insurance is a special policy that is often times better and less expensive than a regular car insurance policy. The coverage is based on an "agreed value", meaning that you and your insurance provider establish an amount for the replacement cost of your car. This is often times cheaper than the "actual cash value" used on regular policies. Also, the deductibles for specialty policies is usually lower and in some cases, there is not a deductible at all.

Before selecting the type of policy you want for your British car, make sure to shop around for the best prices and coverage. In addition, you should remember that in order to get all of the benefits of collector car insurance, there are a few restrictions. These restrictions are as follows:

    1) Age restrictions- most specialty auto insurers require policy holders to be 25
    2) Driving record- in most cases, you must have no moving violations or car accidents for three years prior to applying for a policy
    3) Current insurance- because vintage cars aren't supposed to be used every day, almost every collector car insurer requires proof of a registered, insured car for every day use
    4) Storage- when not in use, your car must be stored in a locked garage or other secure facility
    5) Mileage restrictions- most specialty auto insurers restrict the amount of mileage (usually to 1,000-5,000 miles annually)

  • Colorado English Motoring Conclave

The Colorado English Motoring Conclave gathering of British cars took place last month at Oak Park in Arvada, Colorado. The Conclave is the largest event in the Rocky Mountain region, with over 500 vehicles coming from all over to participate. We had one of our loyal customers contact us, saying that he went to this event and wanted to share his experience. Here is what he had to say:

Hey BP guys, my wife and I attended the Colorado Conclave last month and just wanted to pass along the wonderful experience that we had. The car show was HUGE and VERY well organized. We were definitely impressed by how well they had everything sectioned  off, so you knew exactly what you were going to be looking at. We also found it impressive that people came from all over to attend. There was even a hand-painted, beat up Spit that came down from Wyoming. We couldn't believe they made it! In addition to enjoying the British cars, there was also a bagpipe band that was really good. Overall, we very much enjoyed the event (this the second year in a row that we've gone) and I intend on returning next year!

    -Dwight & Bonnie, Colorado

Thanks to Dwight for telling us about his experience at the Colorado Conclave and sharing some of your photos (see below)! We are thrilled to share the love for British vehicles with other people throughout the country! • British Cars in the Movies

In last week's blog, we celebrated the anniversary of the James Bond movie franchise and this week we thought we would continue the theme and showcase other movies that have featured British cars. British cars have been featured in movies for years now and they continue to be seen in newer movies as well. Here are a few of our favorites:

Austin Powers- International Man of Mystery featured a Jaguar E-Type that was patriotically painted with the Union Jack flag, like the one below.

Another recent movie to boast a British car was Get Smart, which was based off of the 1960s TV series. In the movie, Steve Carrell drives an orange Sunbeam Tiger.

In 2003's The Italian Job, you will see many British cars. While most of the publicity came to the three Mini Cooper S in the movie (similar to the one below), there was also Jaguar E-Types, an Aston Martin DB4 and a Land Rover Series IIa station wagon.

If you have any favorite movies with British cars, we'd love to hear about it! Comment below or share with us on our Facebook page!

At British Parts Northwest, we stock and sell parts and accessories for your beloved Austin Healey, Jaguar, Land Rover, MG, Mini or Triumph.
