  • Timeline of the Jaguar E-Type

The Jaguar E-type is one of the best looking British cars ever made and was initially designed as a rear-wheel drive in two-seater form and as a two-seater convertible. There were several versions of the E-Type that were made and we are going to break down the timeline of how they came to be.

1957- The first prototype concept version (E1A) was developed. The car was used solely for factory testings and was never formally released to the public.

1960- The second E-Type concept (E2A) was created. This car was completed as a race car as it was thought by Jaguar at the time it would provide a better testing ground.

1961- Production began on the Jaguar E-Type Series 1. The Series 1 was initially introduced for export only in March of 1961. The body styles for the Series 1 included 2 door coupe, 2 door 2+2 coupe and the 2 door convertible.

1962- The limited edition Low Drag Coupe was introduced, in efforts to create a car more in the spirit of the D-Type racer.

1963-1964- Twelve limited edition Lightweight E-Types were produced as an evolution of the Low Drag Coupe, designed for racing.

1968- Production on the Series 1 came to an end.

1969- The Jaguar E-Type Series 2 was introduced. It featured:
    -open headlights without glass covers
    -wrap-around rear bumper
-re-positioned and larger front indicators and tail lights below the bumpers
-better cooling aided by an enlarged "mouth" and twin electric fans
    -uprated brakes.

1971- Production on the Series 2 ended and began on the Series 3. The Series 3 had a new 5.3 L, twelve-cylinder Jaguar V12 engine, uprated brakes and standard power steering.

1974- Production on the Jaguar E-Type came to an overall end.

More than 70,000 E-Types were sold in it's lifespan and was ranked first on The Daily Telegraph's list of "100 Most Beautiful Cars of All Time" in March of 2008.

At British Parts Northwest, we carry hundreds of parts for the Jaguar E-Type, in addition to other models of Jaguars, Austin Healey, Land Rover, MG, Mini and Triumph.

  • MG’s Parent Company Opens Operations in America

SAIC Motor, MG’s parent company, has opened a base in the USA to extend its North American operations.

Nearly 100 people will be based in SAIC’s offices in Birmingham, a suburb of Michigan, according to a recent press release. They will focus on three key areas: purchasing, logistics and technology and engineering.

SAIC has a long standing joint venture with General Motors and senior engineers at MG Motor UK are involved with GM on the development of future engines.

ZZ0679A9A4.jpgLast year SAIC Motor sold more than 4 million vehicles and is the eight largest automotive manufacturer in the world. China overtook the USA to become the largest car market in the world in 2009 and last year 20 million new cars were sold in China.

Other news for MGB owners is that big celebrations are being planned by the British MG Car Club and the MG Owners’ Club to celebrate 50 years of the legendary MGB.

The two Clubs are organizing a number of events throughout 2012 in recognition of this significant anniversary which will be of particular interest to the MGB owner, but all MG enthusiasts are equally welcome at all of the events.

Full details of the main Blenheim Birthday Party and other associated events are available on the dedicated website www.mgb50.com.

  • The World's Most Expensive Car Accident: $31 Million Ferrari

The recent news of a $31 million Ferrari that was involved in the world’s most expensive car accident last week, has all car racers and fans saddened and shocked. American businessman Christopher Cox was involved in a collision during a motorcade of GTOs through France en route to the La Mans Classic. While passengers in both cars were hurt, luckily no fatalities were reported. And, it’s yet unknown whether the car can be salvaged. Although betting on the emotional and financial attachment to the vehicle, it’s likely that every attempt will be made!

Performance car accidents may be a risk its owners take, but when the vehicles involve classics that have been lovingly resorted to their (or past) their original beauty and capabilities, it evokes additional emotions and gasps to car race fans everywhere.

  • British Car Production Continues Upward Trend

A recent report by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) showed that UK car production levels are higher than they have been for eight years. For British car owners, the report simply confirms what they already knew: that British cars provide the performance, looks and durability that make them classics.

ZZ42A16462.jpgHere are British car top picks, according to a recent Whatcar? article. Despite BMW ownership, Mini remains a thoroughly British brand and all of its models – bar the Countryman – are assembled in Oxford. None of these sums up the appeal of the Mini brand as well as the Mini Coupe, which is fun to drive.

Jaguar Land produces 10 models in the UK, at factories in Birmingham, Coventry and Liverpool. The Jaguar XF remains a favorite executive choice, thanks to its excellent ride and handling and generous standard equipment. Due a series of updates, the Jaguar XK remains one of the preferred big coupes – there's much more to it than just looks.

Thumbs up are given to the Land Rover Discovery, which is an outstanding family car that mixes executive saloon refinement with MPV practicality and 4x4 ruggedness.

Aston Martin, Bentley and Rolls Royce are no longer British-owned manufacturers, but they produce hugely desirable models that blend cutting-edge technology with old-school British charm.

The Vantage coupe is a pick of the Aston Martin model range, all of which are built in Gaydon, Warwickshire. The Aston Martin Vantage is a credible Porsche 911 rival, with all the style and performance you'd expect.

Bentley is now part of the VW Group empire, but its cars are built using traditional methods in its Crewe factory. For us, the Continental GT sums up what a modern Bentley should be.

For lovers of classic cars, it is all well and good to know what new production lines are yielding, but most argue nothing rivals the cars of the past. Keeping a classic is perfect show, racing or driving form requires maintenance and upkeep, and that is where we come in. We stock what we sell, and we are in business to keep the love of your life—the one with four wheels, that is—on the road and looking lovely! For a limited time, we are offering free shipping on all orders over $750. Contact us and let us see how we can make you a satisfied customer.

  • Why We Love Our Land Rovers

Land Rovers often require frequent mechanical tweaking and maintenance, yet they continue to maintain a huge fan base and support that continues to make them a beloved British car. For many people, the Land Rover dedication is a bit puzzling. But why is there a steadfast, broad appeal of the vehicles?

ZZ3FB16433.jpgThe Land Rover was created for utility, serving both military and farmer, and was built to be able to go anywhere and do practically anything. Now, it has evolved in to a high-end luxury vehicle. But while it is considered a classic car icon for some, you can still find Land Rovers performing efficiently in the military, rural landscapes, and on adventure outings. For its ability to go rugged and look nice at the same time, Land Rovers continue to get a vote of confidence and approval from their drivers.

At British Parts Northwest, we understand the devotion to Land Rovers, and because of that, stock up on parts and accessories for owners that feel the love with them. We have a variety of featured products for Series I-III, Defender, Discovery, and Range Rover.

Of course, we sell for other British car classics as well, including Austin Healey, Jaguar, MG, Mini, and Triumph. And, unlike many British car parts businesses, we stock what we sell. that means if you see it, we have it, and we can ship it out to you asap.
